This site you are on now, is running on GoDaddy. But I have switched some clients to HostGator. Since I wrote this article – I called goDaddy and they actually switched me to a different server. The goDaddy tech informed me that someone on the old box (aka comptuer, aka server) was running a script putting a heavy load on the machine. Since they switched me I have not had any issues with speed.
Initially they kept telling me “Are you using WordPress – thats traditionally very slow” “You should use a caching plugin for WordPress it will solve all your speed issues.”
Except what they don’t tell you is that most plugins to “cache” your WordPress site will kill any form of “random” pieces. For example you pull a video at random in the sidebar… if you install wp-cache – it won’t be random anymore – it will be the same video each time you load the page. I’m sure there were ways around it but I didn’t have time to investigate.
Try calling goDaddy and see if they could move you to a different server. (you have to realllly pester them to get this done) But if you call tech support for the same issue – enough times – they’ll take care of you.
As to Host Gator – I haven’t had any complaints for the clients that are running on it. But all things considered I prefer goDaddy’s support and backend admin.

Wow it has been almost 2 years to the day and I can’t believe what wordpress has been capable of in that time.

Have you switch to Host Gator yet? Mine is also awfully slow. And yet Godday’s support always “delegate” the fault back to ISP. If it is my ISP, how come traceroute show OK, and FTP is still fast.

I think their HTTP server has serious problem. It is damn slow.

I have had EXACTLY the same problem. Now, I’m no server expert – but I am designing a site for a client who uses Godaddy servers, and it takes soooo long for their site to load, it’s nuts.
I thought it was a problem with me coding first (phew – it isn’t!) – but I can go away and make a cuppa before the site has finished loading!

I wouldn’t ever use them or recommend them!

Sure thing. Okay so to limit the number or posts to just one you would use this in your $args=array(

$args=array(
              // .... (other code you already have)
       //   HOW MANY to display
       'showposts'=>1,     // change the 1 to number of posts to show
              // .... (other code you already have)
       //   PAGANATION FIX
       'paged'=>$paged,
);
query_posts($args);

This is great, it has really helped me! I have one question…
Is there a way to limit the number of posts it returns with the same taxonomy?

I’d like it to only return 1 post per taxonomy.

Hi, I’m not sure when you posted or if you have changed hosts but I wanted to let you know I had the same problems with my WP blogs running very slow on GoDaddy. I called them and was told I was still on their old server and needed to switch to their 4GH (Grid Hosting) servers. I switched over at no cost and sure enough, my problems were solved. You would think that GoDaddy would have let us know about the new servers or at least switched us over automatically. Anyway, I hope this post gets to you in time.
